Only 15 more days until I depart for Spain. My flight will stop once in Philadelphia, where I will say good-bye to the US, and then on to Madrid. I will be picked up from there and taken to my host family in Segovia. Right now all I know about my family is I will be living with a lady named Julia. She has two daughters who are married and visit often. My host mom (Mom won't let me call her "mom") likes to needlepoint and take walks. Some friends from school jokingly told me it sounds like she's an old cat lady, but I don't like to think about that.haha
Yesterday, my mom and I took the long trek up to Chicago to get my visa. It certainly was a hassle and I'm very thankful she was driving. Now begins the process of trying to fit my life, for the next 3.5 months, into 2 suitcases. (I anticipate a very frustrating, humorous process)
I have been reading books about Spain, searching the web for fast facts, and practicing my Spanish more and more. However, no matter how much I try to prepare, I know I just need to pray and go with the flow. People who have studied abroad tell me not to be scared to get lost, which makes me nervous. However, I'm sure I won't have to try hard for that. It will simply add to the adventure. I will certainly be stretched this semester. Thanks for prayers, support, and any encouraging messages along the way!
(The picture is of the roman aqueduct in Segovia. The restaurant in the picture, called "Condido", is very popular in Segovia. It's cool to think I might stand in this exact spot while in Segovia)
